The Southeast Florida Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (SEFIPP)
Advanced Training in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy
SEFIPP was formed in 1993 by the members of SEFAPP who were trained in psychoanalysis in order to offer advanced training in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. SEFIPP is an advanced training institute, providing formal, comprehensive training to licensed mental health professionals. A central component of SEFIPP is the Low Fee Referral Service which offers long-term, out-patient treatment to people of low to moderate income.
Through a curriculum that immerses candidates in theories of the mind, development, psychopathology and treatment, SEFIPP's primary goal is to train mental health professionals to have a clear understanding and appreciation of the richness of psychoanalytic theories and practices.
The diversity of SEFIPP's faculty members, trained throughout the United States, Mexico and South America, supports and facilitates our philosophy and educational goals.
Candidates study the original writings of Freud and more contemporary theories including ego psychology, object relations, relational/interpersonal, self psychology and Lacanian models. Disavowing orthodoxy and welcoming all significant viewpoints in psychoanalysis, SEFIPP's philosophy embodies a spirit of open inquiry and critical discussion that informs the experience of learning.
SEFIPP also offers, separate from its training program, brief courses on various topics of interest such as developing a practice outside of managed care, eating disorders, dissociative disorders, the treatment of dual diagnosis patients, the initial interview, and psychoanalytic case formulation. These courses serve the purpose of acquainting mental health professionals with the depth and breadth of psychoanalytic thinking and practice.
